25 Things Before 25: Number 1 States

Visit 25 states I haven’t been to before!

Why?

SO, I know with all of you world travelers out there, this may sound a little boring, but it is something I am so excited about! One of my dear friends, Christy, has traveled more than anyone I know and spent a year traveling the world. Half of that year was spent traveling across America, and she said that was the most awesome part.

Passion for history

I am such a history nerd, and I can’t wait to see things and learn about things that have happened in our country in the town in which they occurred! I actually took a class in college called The History of the American West, which I found extremely interesting and ignited my curiosity. Since I live in the West, I have seen amazing and historical landmarks, but there are a handful of states in the west that I have never been to like Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho. I have been researching the museums and the notable landmarks for each state that I have to see when I travel there, and I cannot wait to go!

On the subject of history, I would also love to see where it all began in the original 13 colonies. I want to see the Statue of Liberty, the Lincoln Memorial, library of Congress, the Liberty Bell, the Benjamin Franklin museum, and Independence Hall to name a few. The Northeast is my least traveled area of the U.S. and I am just craving to go! I actually have only been to New York–and the western side, at that–Buffalo/Niagara Falls area to Syracuse. Also, I have only been to a couple of states in the southeast: Florida and Louisiana. Really, I haven’t been anywhere on the East Coast unless a layover in Baltimore counts!

Music

I have thought about moving to Nashville, TN many times before just for the music. However, my mom has always told me to visit before I just think that it is a place I could live. Valid point, mom. There is just so many things that happen in Nashville year round that would be so exciting to be involved in! Also, all things Elvis are located in Memphis, and I have an Elvis obsession that needs me to stop in Graceland. SO, you can count on Tennessee being one of my stops throughout this year.

In my research, I have found a lot of other places that music lovers should visit, and it gave me a list of (surprisingly) many places I have already been: LA, New Orleans, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Austin. When I have been to these places I never really sought out any music, so the next time I am in any of these cities, I will have to pay more attention to the music aspect. The cities mentioned that I have never been to include Memphis, Nashville, New York City, Athens (GA), D.C., Portland, and Seattle. Each one of these cities are in states I am so excited to visit, so I’ll keep the music aspect at the forfront of my mind when planning my trips. (Hint: music will be involved in my 25 Things Before 25)

New experiences

I have not done a lot of traveling by myself, and I am a little nervous to be honest. I know that some friends will want to tag along on some of my trips, but it will be a new experience to be somewhere I haven’t been and exploring it on my own. I am, actually, super hyped up about it. I can’t wait to branch out and meet new people in new places and reconnect with friends that have moved to some of the places I’ll visit. Most places I’ll go, I will know someone there, or some of my friends will be with me, or my mom will be my adventure buddy.

Realizing I have only been to 18 of 50 states was shocking to me, honestly, and I think that sometimes I get so caught up in wanting to be a world traveler that I forget how beautiful and diverse America is. So, I can’t wait to see the more of this amazing country and document it all! I know there will be so many amazing experiences along the way and I can’t wait to begin!

It’s good to take a leap. I’ve been telling myself I need to travel too. I’d like to visit Dubai (mainly because of the hype), Malta, and Cambodia. These are the places I would love to visit for now.

  6. Smart enough, at 25 you know what you wish and like to do. I too discovered my passion of travel and hiking at later age. Once you start traveling you will cross states and your travel list will go on increasing. I too wish to travel many places in this world.

Cool list! I haven’t been to a single state in the USA so I can’t recommend anything. BUT like you I was also nervous about travelling a lobe the first time. Ended up being such fun, plus you can always connect with other solo travelers.

  10. Love this! I would love to visit more US states as well! I travel often but just not too much in the US! I still haven’t been to Cali – I’d dying to go!
